VCDL - ACTION ITEM! Time to contact the Governor!
The first gun bills have finally landed on the Governor’s desk and we need to act NOW! While we have no reason to believe that Governor Youngkin won’t veto gun-control bills, we dare not leave that to chance, as he has not said publicly what he will do. So, it is important that we have as many gun owners as possible contacting the Governor. Any gun-control bills the Governor vetoes will have zero chance of being overridden! The prewritten email to Governor Youngkin can be edited to add your own thoughts if you wish. Here is the link to send the email to the Governor. Please share this link with family, friends, co-workers, and anyone else you know who supports the right to keep and bear arms! https://www.votervoice.net/VCDL/Campaigns/111468/Respond

I was so sad to hear about the shooting at Lakewood Church in Texas. I'm thankful that two off-duty law enforcement officers were there to kill this crazy woman before she could commit mass murder. I don't understand why she would bring her son to commit her crime. I'm praying that he will survive.
As usual, gun laws don't stop mass shootings. Properly trained men and women with guns do. This lady had a long criminal and mental health history and yet still had an AR15 available to her. Here are several previous blog entries about previous church shootings in Texas and Tennessee that were successfully stopped by law abiding gun owners. Several people who reached-out to me recently to schedule basic handgun training mentioned that they'd been wanting to schedule gun training for several years but just didn't get around to it. Are you a gun owner who's never had formal training? Have you always wanted to get a gun for Concealed Carry, Home Defense or just to start shooting as a hobby? If so, start off the correct way with training.
Safe handling is a foundational skill. When you do it correctly from the start, gun safety will become automatic. Unfortunately, if don't you start out handling guns safely, being unsafe will be become automatic. I've got about ten training slots open for this year - contact me now to secure one for you or your group. I recently wrote about the horrific Hamas attack on civilians in Israel and the lack of private gun ownership. Thankfully, not everyone in Israel was unarmed or the death toll would have been much higher. For those of you who would say that private citizens cannot stand against terrorists or military-grade weapons, please watch this incredible account of a man who protected his family against more than 10 terrorists on October 7th armed only with a handgun.
This is a case study in home defense. Miki kept his cool during the battle and ambushed the attackers as they entered his house. He also never surrendered, even though Hamas used unimaginable psychologic techniques to try to get him to. The 2nd Amendment guarantees the right of Americans to own guns for self-defense and to help ensure an attack like that never happens here. Let's be ready. Don't learn gun safety from someone who is unsafe. I saw this short clip on X recently and cringed the whole time because of the unsafe gun handling. Thankfully no one got hurt.
In the first screenshot below, notice the instructor's trigger finger and the direction the gun is pointed - he's breaking two of the NRA's three rules for safe gun handling. The second screen shot shows the pistol after it goes off and the recoil makes it almost point at the shooter's head! Every course I teach starts with the three NRA rules for safe gun handling:
It is definitely disappointing to see a firearms instructor showing such an unsafe demonstration. Gun training and shooting should be 100% safe. If you feel unsafe, leave. I'm following the horrific news of the terrorist attacks on Israel and murder of innocent citizens. It is no surprise that many in Israel are calling for expanded gun ownership by private civilians. This is very similar to what happened after Russia invaded Ukraine last year.
According to the article: "In Israel, the usual personal weapon allowed are pistols with a limit of 50 rounds of ammunition. To qualify, one must be of a certain age, depending on IDF service, live or work in an area that demands extra security, not have a criminal record, and pass a training course and background check, among other things." The requirements are so strict only 1.5% of the population has a gun. “Who has a gun? The terrorists, and all the criminals. Who doesn’t? Law-abiding tax-payers. The government trusts criminals with guns more than their own civilians,” Yoel Israel, CEO of a digital marketing agency, told The Times of Israel. French gun control proven failed during the recent riots.
Watch these videos and be outraged. Criminals parading down the streets of France with illegal guns while law abiding citizens have no way to protect themselves. There are many examples from all over the world proving that criminals will have guns, even if they are outlawed. Last year, I wrote about a school shooting in Russia. America has the 2nd Amendment to guarantee our right to protect ourselves and our loved ones. Here's a must watch video of Lt. Governor Winsome Earle-Sears responding to the shooting earlier this month outside of the Altria theatre after a High School Graduation ceremony. She said: "Even if you took all the guns off the street, from the law-abiding citizens, the others who mean harm, who mean to kill and mayhem, they're going to have the guns."
She's right of course, the way to prevent these crimes is to get tough on crime. However, enforcing existing laws and keeping criminals off of the street is not what the left wants. This article says: "The shooting prompted a floor speech by U.S. Rep. Jennifer McClellan, D-Richmond, who called for her colleagues in Washington to legislate background checks and an assault weapons ban to protect children." Assault weapon ban and background checks to protect children??? This is so stupid. The shooter used a handgun, not what the left calls an "assault weapon." He was also 19 and can't legally buy a handgun - though I only saw this referenced in one article out of the five I read about the shooting. There are already background checks on ALL gun purchases. Here's a great article on Winsome Sears' appearance on the Bill Mahr show. She is a strong pro-gun advocate and I love her comments in this article about women and guns.
What makes no sense, of course, is Mahr's comments: "I mean, I do not like guns. I have guns. I do not like them. I always compare them to antibiotics. I never want to take one, but I’m glad they exist because I’m as small as some women," Maher joked. Hopefully he's joking. A gun is not very likely to do him any good if he doesn't like them and doesn't want to use them. It sounds like he's hoping he can somehow rise to the occasion when his life is on the line. Mahr isn't the only one though, I know several people who own guns for self-protection but have never been trained how to safely use them and never practice with them. If you own guns, please don't be like them. Get trained on safe gun handling, marksmanship and self-defense and then practice regularly. Sometimes I'm surprised at the lengths that gun controllers will go to in order to pass more gun laws.
I guess it is no surprise that Mike Bloomberg and Hillary Clinton (and many others) claim 100 people die each day due gun violence, when the number of gun homicides is about 35 per day. Two-thirds of gun deaths in America are suicides and should not be included in "gun violence" numbers. As the article rightly points out, additional gun control is unlikely to reduce suicides. However, I was shocked when I read about a District Attorney who refuses to prosecute gun crimes. I can't imagine hating guns, gun owners and basic freedom so much that I'd be willing to let people die in order to get more gun control. I guess that is what Los Angeles District Attorney George Gascón is doing. Prosecuting the existing laws would make the community safer. Great quote from the article: “How can George Gascón have the nerve to talk about needing new gun laws when he refuses to endorse the ones we already have?” said veteran prosecutor John Lewin according to the Washington Examiner. “If you want to deter criminals from using guns, punish them for doing so. This is why we have gun enhancements! The idea is that you want to increase the penalty so much for using a gun in a crime that the criminals decide to leave them at home.” I think we'd all agree this is too far! |
