Remember the Past, Preserve Our Freedom

Below is an excellent article about the 250th anniversary of the start of the Revolutionary War and a reminder about how our freedoms are still being attacked.  I excerpted this article from the VCDL 3/27/25 VA-ALERT email:
"On April 19, 2025, it will have been exactly 250 years since the British tried to disarm Americans to put us under their tyrannical thumb in perpetuity.

Well, we know how that plan worked out. ;-)

But our freedoms weren’t guaranteed by the Revolutionary War in perpetuity, either.  Tyrants never sleep and they won’t rest until our rights have been stripped away, giving tyrants their elixir of choice:  power.

The threat now isn’t from some country across the ocean.  It is from right here in the United States, and for us, right here in Virginia!  This year and last year, every single Democrat in the Virginia General Assembly, and occasionally a Republican or two, voted to edge us closer to civilian disarmament.  Over these two years, the Democrats put in SIXTY-THREE gun-control bills!  There would have been more bills, but VCDL’s push back helped get some bills derailed early.
Governor Youngkin vetoed all those bills, stopping the frontal attack on our rights, for now.  Gun controllers have been saying for years, “Nobody wants to take your guns.  We just want REASONABLE gun control!”

Oh, yeah?  In 2019 during an interview, then Governor Ralph Northam said that he was considering confiscation of “assault rifles.” I’m pretty sure that counts as wanting to take our guns.

That awakened 50,000 gun-owners from a sound sleep, and they showed up at VCDL’s Lobby Day rally in 2020 to tell Northam that bans and/or confiscation was a really, really bad idea.  Seeing the size of that crowd, Northam headed for a quick vacation in North Carolina, while the Democrats in the General Assembly killed the “assault weapon” bill immediately.

Now that most of those 50,000 gun-owners have fallen back asleep, the Democrats have brought back the “assault weapon” ban bill last year and this year, passed the bill out of the General Assembly, and laid it on the Governor’s desk.  Standing firm, the Governor vetoed those bills.

If gun owners don’t show up in huge numbers and vote THIS YEAR, we could find ourselves back in 2020, with a Democrat controlled General Assembly, governorship, and Lt. governorship making a gun ban become a reality. If confiscation is part of that package, we could be back in 1775.  Let’s not go back to either of those dates.  The gun controllers are serious about civilian disarmament, and we had best be more serious about keeping them out of power.
Amazingly, a lot of gun owners aren’t even registered to vote!  Hunters are some of the biggest culprits when it comes to not being on the voter rolls.  If you know someone like that, get them to register and have them request a permanent absentee ballot that is mailed to their home automatically every year so they can vote from their easy chairs!

Complacency is dangerous.
